The Astronomy and Fundamental Physics Working Group explores how artificial intelligence can accelerate discovery across some of the most data-intensive scientific disciplines.
The group brings together researchers working in astronomy, astrophysics, particle physics, cosmology, gravitational wave science and quantum physics with AI experts, computing infrastructure providers and research infrastructures. It focuses on the development and application of trustworthy AI methods for signal detection, simulation, uncertainty quantification, experimental optimisation and scientific inference. By connecting leading European facilities and research communities, the group identifies research priorities, infrastructure needs and collaboration opportunities that enable AI to support the next generation of scientific discoveries while ensuring transparency, reproducibility and scientific rigour.
Exploring methods for extracting weak signals, identifying rare events and analysing multimodal data from next-generation scientific facilities.
Developing interpretable, uncertainty-aware AI methods that support reliable scientific conclusions.
Investigating hybrid AI approaches that combine physical models, simulations and experimental measurements.
Identifying requirements for computing, data management and collaborative research infrastructures.
RAISE FORUM enables structured discussion, consultation, and feedback within the Working Group.
It supports the exchange of perspectives on priorities, challenges, and opportunities in AI for science.
Selected experts contributing to the AI in Science Working Groups
Each Working Group brings together a selected group of experts contributing to the co-creation of the AI in Science Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). Members were appointed through an open call for expression of interest based on their expertise, experience, and ability to contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration across AI and scientific research domains.
